Janakantha looted in Madhupur and Dhanbari:
On 7 November, Dainik Janakantha looted in Madhupur and Dhanbari, Tangail. The cadres and supporters of Sarkar Shahid, Chairman of Madhupur Paurashova and joint secretary of upozilla BNP snatched the newspapers. For this, no one can read newspapers in that day of that locality.

Source informed that on 7 November a report was published in Dainik Janakantha headed that Chairman of “Madhupur Paurashova Chairman arrested from brothel, later freed". Other dailies also published the news. When the cadres and supporters informed about the news, they looted Janakantha and other dailies from the newspaper agents and hawkers early in the morning. People from all segments condemned against the incidence and sought for punishment of the accused. Source also informed that on 5 November the chairman and the police had a verbal conflict in Mymensingh - near to Dhaka and later three rounds fire were heard. So, fear spread through out the area. Later, police arrested the drunken chairman. After that the Chairman was freed because local BNP leaders insist the police. Source also informed that Choyon Kanti Ghosh, SI of Mymansing police station was suspended temporarily because he arrested the chairman Sarkar Shahid.

 

Censor Board for daily newspaper in Madhupur:
A group of political leaders have formed an unofficial board to censor all daily newspaper before circulating in their locality. No hawker is permitted to distribute any newspaper among readers unless this group gives any ‘green signal’ after scanning these newspapers.

Shahidul Islam alias Sarkar Shahid, Chairman of Madhupur Paurashava (Municipality) and also a ruling party leader are selected as the chairperson of the ‘censor board’. Babu Bikash Chandra Ghosh, member secretary of Jubo Dal – a wing of BNP, is the member of the same censor board. A group of young BNP activist monitors newspapers if there is any news that could harmful to them or goes against their interest. Madhupur is a sub-district in the Tangail district and north from capital Dhaka.

On 7 November, this censor board prohibited the sell of the following newspapers: Dainik Ittefaq, Dainik Shamokal and Dainik Janakantha those came for Ghatail, Gopalpur, Dhanbari and Madhupur. On 8 November morning they put bar again on these newspaper to circulate by hawkers: Dainik Shamokal, Dainik Ittefaq, Dainik Janakantha, Dainik Prothom Alo, Dainik Jugantor, Dainik Naya Diganta and Dainik Manobzamin and Dainik Amar Desh, Dainik Dinkal, Dainik Amader Shomoy, Dainik Ajker Kagoj and Dainik Inqilab got permission for selling.
